The Communications Office announced that the auction for the radio frequency spectrum in the 2.5/2.6 GHz band was successfully completed after a total of 3 bidding rounds. A total of 50 MHz of spectrum across 5 frequency bands was won by 3 mobile network operators, with a total spectrum usage fee of HKD 202 million.

Among them, China Mobile (00941.HK) won the paired frequency bands of 2515-2520 and 2635-2640, with a total spectrum usage fee of HKD 40 million; SMARTONE TELE (00315.HK) won the paired frequency bands of 2520-2525 and 2640-2645, as well as the paired frequency bands of 2525-2530 and 2645-2650, with a total spectrum usage fee of HKD 80 million.

As for HKT-SS (06823.HK) and Hutchison Telecom (00215.HK) joint venture Genius Brand Limited, they won the paired frequency bands of 2530-2535 and 2650-2655, as well as the paired frequency bands of 2535-2540 and 2655-2660, with a total spectrum usage fee of HKD 82 million.

A spokesperson for the Communications Office stated that successful bidders can not only use the relevant spectrum to continue providing mobile communication services but can also reorganize the spectrum to further support more advanced mobile services, including sixth generation (6G), promoting the continuous development of communication technology in Hong Kong
