Microsoft invests billions to partner with Lambda for thousands of NVIDIA GPUs to ramp up the AI arms race
Artificial intelligence startup Lambda announced on Monday that it has reached a multi-billion dollar agreement with Microsoft to collaborate on strengthening the infrastructure needed for the AI boom, deploying computing resources powered by NVIDIA GPUs. Lambda stated in a press release that as part of the agreement, Microsoft will deploy "tens of thousands" of NVIDIA GPUs, including its latest GB300 NVL72 system. Lambda is one of several emerging cloud service providers that have entered the AI field in recent years, alongside others like Nebius and CoreWeave. Lambda CEO Stephen Balaban stated in the press release, "We are excited to see the teams at Microsoft and Lambda working together to deploy these large AI supercomputers. Our partnership with Microsoft has lasted over eight years, and this is an extraordinary step in our relationship." Additionally, Microsoft announced that it has reached an agreement to export some NVIDIA GPUs to the United Arab Emirates as part of its plan to invest approximately $15 billion in the country by 2029
