Waymo, a subsidiary of Google, accelerates its autonomous driving expansion, potentially entering three cities next year

Waymo, a self-driving technology company under Google, plans to launch commercial robotaxi services in three cities: San Diego, Las Vegas, and Detroit. Although the specific opening date has not been clarified, reports expect the service to be available to the public within 2026. A Waymo spokesperson stated that while the company has currently obtained a self-driving ride-hailing operating license in California, it still needs to acquire a transportation network company license in Michigan, and in Nevada, it must pass testing approvals from the state's vehicle management and transportation management agencies before commencing commercial operations. The spokesperson emphasized, "We will follow a safety framework and will only provide services to passengers in these cities after fully validating the technology and obtaining the necessary licenses, with plans to open in 2026." Currently, Waymo's self-driving taxi services are operational in the San Francisco Bay Area, Los Angeles, Phoenix, Austin, and Atlanta. The company also plans to launch services in Boston, Seattle, Denver, Miami, New York City, and Washington, D.C
