Uniper mothballs Swedish oil-fired power unit as reserve deal runs out

German utility Uniper is mothballing its 335-megawatt Karlshamnverket 2 oil-fired power plant in Sweden due to the expiration of a back-up power supply deal. This decision, effective November 16, follows the cancellation of Sweden's strategic power reserve procurement. Uniper's management expressed concerns about the negative impact on power system adequacy in southern Sweden, where demand often exceeds supply. While Block 2 is being preserved for potential future use, Block 3 remains operational but requires a long-term solution.
