The European Union plans to legislate requiring member states to eliminate Huawei and ZTE equipment to strengthen telecommunications network security supervision
The European Commission is studying a plan to require member states to gradually eliminate equipment from Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd. and ZTE (00763.HK) to reduce potential national security risks.
According to informed sources, European Commission Vice President Henna Virkkunen is considering transforming the non-binding recommendations made by the Commission in 2020 regarding high-risk suppliers into legally binding regulations, requiring member states to align their telecommunications network construction with EU security guidelines.
Currently, countries still have the dominant power in telecommunications infrastructure decision-making, but if the new proposal is passed, it will force EU countries to uniformly implement relevant security standards
