Malaysia's Petros signs agreements to expand Sarawak oil and gas ventures, explore carbon storage

Malaysia's state-run energy firm, Petroleum Sarawak Berhad (Petros), has signed three agreements to enhance oil and gas exploration and carbon storage. Collaborating with Japan's JOGMEC, Petros will explore onshore oil and gas in Mukah-Balingian. Additionally, partnerships with SC Tubular Solutions Malaysia and SUSTEC will focus on the Adong Kechil West field, while a collaboration with Woodside Energy will evaluate carbon storage feasibility in Central Luconia. Petros aims to unlock new opportunities in exploration and low-carbon development.
KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 11 (Reuters) - The state-run energy firm of Malaysia’s Sarawak state has signed three agreements with international partners covering oil and gas exploration and carbon capture and storage, it said on Tuesday.
Petroleum Sarawak Berhad, known as Petros, said it has struck an agreement with the Japanese government-owned Japan Organization for Metals and Energy Security (JOGMEC) for onshore oil and gas exploration in the Mukah-Balingian region.
It has also agreed with SC Tubular Solutions Malaysia and Japanese sensor technology group SUSTEC to explore for oil and gas at the Adong Kechil West field near Miri, in Sarawak’s north.
A third partnership with Australia’s Woodside Energy (WDS.AX) will assess the technical and commercial feasibility of storing carbon in Central Luconia, offshore Sarawak.
Petros chairman Amar Hamid Bugo said in a statement the deals would “unlock new opportunities in exploration and low-carbon development”.
