Car Subscription App Autonomy To Add Over 1,000 Polestar, Volvo EVs To Its Fleet
Autonomy, a long-term EV subscription app, is expanding its fleet by adding over 1,000 Polestar, Volvo, and Tesla EVs. The company, which currently offers Tesla Model 3 rentals, secured a $25 million loan to support this expansion. The new lineup will include recent model-year cars and certified pre-owned EVs. Autonomy aims to make car subscriptions as easy as streaming a movie, with a minimum rental period of 30 days. The service is available in several US states and includes various benefits such as maintenance and roadside assistance.

Autonomy, the smartphone app that offers all-in-one subscriptions for EVs, will add 1,250 Polestar and Volvo electric cars to its fleet, as well as additional Tesla models. The company, which currently operates an all-Tesla fleet in several American states, secured a $25 million loan from Fincity Corporation through SR Alternative Credit.
The company said customers can expect to see the Polestar 2 and facelifted Tesla Model 3 and Model Y in the app soon, with additional vehicles from Volvo and other automakers set to join the fleet. Autonomy did not detail what other models would be available in the future.
Tesla Model 3 EVs available as long-term rentals through Autonomy
Back in 2023, the startup had roughly 1,300 cars in its fleet, but was forced to cut back on its initial goal of acquiring 23,000 EVs from no fewer than 17 automakers due to the plummeting value of EVs. Car rental giant Hertz also began offloading EVs from its fleet two years ago.
Since then, things have settled down, so Autonomy is now trying to increase its fleet. The startup said the new lineup will include vehicles at various price points, including recent model-year cars, as well as used models that will be bought as certified pre-owned EVs. It’s worth noting that the Polestar 2 is on hiatus in the United States, with the only options being pre-owned and inventory vehicles.
“Autonomy’s goal is to make getting a car as easy as streaming a movie and to do it on the customer’s terms,” said Scott Painter, Founder and CEO of Autonomy. “By introducing additional brands, as well as recent model-year and off-lease vehicles, we are expanding access to mobility for a wider range of customers.”
The startup’s car subscription model has a minimum period of 30 days. The monthly fee, which is calculated individually, includes a 1,000-mile allowance and covers registration fees, routine maintenance, roadside assistance, and a charging kit. Customers pay using a credit card, and Autonomy claims there is no impact on the credit score. The startup also says customers can return their rental anytime, as long as there is a two-week notice.
Autonomy currently offers long-term EV rentals in California, Texas, Florida, Washington, Arizona, North Carolina and New York.
