After beginning the session in positive territory, the Toronto Stock Exchange's S&amp;P/TSX Composite Index by midday was 0.8% lower, at 30052.85. The mining sector was the biggest drag, leading broad losses and offsetting a gain by the finance segment. The blue-chip S&amp;P/TSX 60 was 0.5% weaker, at 1773.52. Among mining companies, Agnico Eagle was down 3.5%, Barrick Mining lost 3.9%, Hudbay Minerals shed 3.7% and Teck Resources shed 2.3%. <pre></pre> Other market movers: Shares of Vizsla Silver dropped 13%, to 5.74 Canadian dollars (US$4.09), after the company priced a US$250 million offering of convertible notes, raising funds to develop its flagship project in Mexico and to prepare for possible future acquisitions. Real Matters rose 1.5%, to C$6.11, after the company reported a slight increase in fourth-quarter revenue as growth in Canada and U.S. refinance-origination revenue offset lower activity in the U.S. purchase market. <pre></pre> Write to Robb M.
