The two major cloud computing giants, Amazon and Google, are rarely coming together to establish faster and more reliable connections for enterprise customers between their respective cloud platforms through a jointly developed new service. According to a joint statement released by the two companies on Sunday, this new initiative will allow customers to establish private high-speed links between Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Google Cloud in just a few minutes, significantly shortening the deployment time that previously could take weeks. The initiative aims to improve network interoperability and facilitate enterprises adopting multi-cloud strategies.
On October 20, AWS experienced a massive service outage that took down thousands of websites globally, including popular applications like Snapchat and Reddit. According to data from analysis firm Parametrix cited by Reuters, this outage alone could have caused losses of up to $650 million for U.S. companies, highlighting the critical role of cloud service stability.
Robert Kennedy, Vice President of AWS Network Services, referred to this collaboration as a &#34;fundamental shift in multi-cloud connectivity.&#34; Rob Enns, Vice President and General Manager of Google Cloud Network, stated that the goal of the joint network is to &#34;make it easier for customers to migrate data and applications between clouds.&#34;

According to the announcement from the two cloud service providers, this new product combines AWS's Interconnect–multicloud with Google Cloud's Cross-Cloud Interconnect services. Its core objective is to improve network interoperability between different cloud platforms to address the urgent market demand for reliable connections, especially in a time when even brief internet service interruptions can have a significant impact.
This initiative aimed at simplifying multi-cloud architecture has already attracted early users. Google Cloud mentioned in a statement that enterprise software giant Salesforce is one of the first adopters of this new solution.
