China and Russia in talks after halt to power supplies

China has halted electric power imports from Russia, citing high prices, while Russia is open to resuming supplies if mutually beneficial terms are agreed. Russia's energy ministry emphasized the need to meet rising domestic demand in its Far East. InterRAO, the supplier, confirmed ongoing talks and stated that neither side intends to terminate their long-term contract. Power exports to China have significantly decreased from 4.6 billion kilowatt-hours in 2022 to just 0.3 billion in the first nine months of 2025 due to system constraints and rising demand in Russia.
