Gates and OpenAI team up for AI health push in African countries

The Gates Foundation and OpenAI have launched a $50 million partnership, Horizon1000, to enhance health systems in African countries using AI. The initiative aims to collaborate with African leaders, starting in Rwanda, to improve access to quality care in regions facing health worker shortages. The goal is to reach 1,000 primary health clinics by 2028. This effort comes amid significant cuts to international aid, which have led to increased preventable child deaths in lower-income countries. Gates emphasizes AI's potential to transform healthcare in sub-Saharan Africa, where there is a shortage of six million healthcare professionals.
