The U.S. Commerce Department reported a 5.3% increase in durable goods orders for November, following a 2.1% decline in October. Excluding transportation, orders rose by 0.5%. Notable increases were seen in nondefense aircraft orders, which surged by 97.6%, while defense aircraft orders fell by 1.2%. Total unfilled orders increased by 1.3%, and total inventories rose by 0.2%. Economists had forecasted a 3.2% rise in durable goods orders for November. Semiconductor shipments are now included in broader categories.
