The Secretary for Innovation, Technology and Industry, Sun Dong, began his visit to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, yesterday (29th) and met with the Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation of Malaysia, Cheng Likang. The two sides exchanged in-depth opinions on the development of innovation and technology, industrial policies, and cooperation directions between the two regions.

Sun Dong stated that Hong Kong will provide industrial chain support from research and development, pilot testing to production through key platforms such as the Hong Kong Science Park and the Hong Kong Park of the Shenzhen-Hong Kong Innovation and Technology Cooperation Zone, further strengthening collaboration between Hong Kong and Malaysia in innovation research and development, developing strategic industries, and supporting startups, while jointly expanding innovation and technology cooperation with ASEAN countries.

Sun Dong also visited the Chinese Ambassador to Malaysia, Ouyang Yujing, to introduce the latest arrangements of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government in the field of innovation and technology, and exchanged views on how Hong Kong can assist in deepening cooperation between the country and Malaysia in innovation and technology and industry.

Today (30th), Sun Dong visited the University of Malaya to discuss promoting innovation development between Hong Kong and ASEAN through cooperation in scientific research, talent exchange, and industry. He then met with the Malaysian Semiconductor Industry Association to discuss topics related to semiconductor research and development, manufacturing, and industrial chain cooperation between the two regions. Both sides agreed that through complementary advantages, they could jointly promote high value-added manufacturing and technological innovation, utilizing the research advantages of the Hong Kong Applied Science and Technology Research Institute and the pilot transformation capabilities of the Hong Kong Park in the Lok Ma Chau area to facilitate technological cooperation and market alignment
