
"Economy" Federal Statistical Office of Germany: Germany's seasonally adjusted unemployment rate remained at 3.8% in December
The Federal Statistical Office of Germany announced that, seasonally adjusted, the employment population in Germany decreased by 5,000 people or 0% in December last year. From May to November last year, the average monthly decrease was 11,000 people.
Unadjusted, the employment population in Germany decreased by 126,000 people or 0.3% in December last year; the monthly decline was higher than the average decline in December between 2022 and 2024 (109,000 people).
On a year-on-year basis, the employment population in Germany decreased by 69,000 people or 0.2% in December last year. In October and November last year, the year-on-year decline was 0.1%. The year-on-year downward trend has continued since August last year.
According to labor survey data, the number of unemployed people in Germany last month was 1.6 million, an increase of 184,000 people or 13% year-on-year, with the unemployment rate rising to 3.6%, an increase of 0.4 percentage points year-on-year. After seasonal adjustment and excluding one-off factors, the number of unemployed people in Germany last month was 1.68 million, an increase of 7,000 people or 0.4% month-on-month, with the seasonally adjusted unemployment rate remaining at 3.8%
