China’s solar power capacity on course to surpass coal this year

China's solar power capacity is projected to exceed coal for the first time this year, according to the China Electricity Council. By year-end, solar and wind are expected to account for about half of the country's installed generating capacity, while coal's share will drop to one-third. Total coal capacity is estimated at 1,333 gigawatts by 2026, with solar reaching 1,200 gigawatts. The growth in renewable energy is crucial for meeting rising electricity demand and avoiding blackouts, despite a slowdown in new capacity growth compared to last year.
