Canadian Minister of Industry: Actively promoting the establishment of a joint venture car factory between China and Canada to produce electric vehicles for global export
Canada's Minister of Industry, Melanie Joly, stated in an interview with Bloomberg Television that Canada is actively promoting the establishment of joint venture automotive factories with China to produce electric vehicles for global export.
She pointed out that Canadian automotive parts companies operating in China could collaborate with Chinese electric vehicle manufacturers to set up joint assembly plants in Canada, creating joint venture vehicles for global export. She also mentioned that the country can ensure that the software installed in vehicles meets safety standards, emphasizing that Canada can simultaneously implement labor standards and establish a local supply chain. She believes that while labor costs in Canada are higher than in China, joint venture electric vehicles still possess global competitiveness.
She stated that the country is engaging in active dialogue on how Canadian companies can cooperate with Chinese automotive investments, including collaboration with QNX, a software developer under BlackBerry. During her earlier visit to China, she met with the world's largest electric vehicle manufacturers, BYD (01211.HK) and CHERY (09973.HK)
