While most blockchains optimize for speed or decentralization, Canton is built around the needs that institutions truly care about: privacy between counterparties, fast settlement, and native compliance.</p><p>On public blockchains, every transaction is visible to everyone. This is a significant obstacle for banks and asset management companies, who are legally obligated to keep their clients' activities confidential. Canton is able to maintain a synchronized ledger shared across the entire network while ensuring the privacy of both parties involved in a transaction. This is achieved at the smart contract level using the Daml language, a language designed to embed access and authorization rules directly into each asset and transaction. Two companies can settle transactions without revealing transaction details to anyone. Regulatory bodies still have access to the information they need, but the wider network remains unaware of activities unrelated to them. In traditional trading systems, transactions require multiple intermediaries, and complete settlement can take hours or even days. With the Canton system, settlement is completed in a single step between the transacting parties. There is no situation where one party has completed their transaction while the other has not. This eliminates a significant risk category in the repo market, where daily transactions reach hundreds of billions of dollars. The network also supports native collaboration between different financial applications. Tokenized government bonds on one platform can serve as collateral on another platform, with settlement completed through a single transaction across both platforms, eliminating the need for either party to trust a central intermediary. This cross-application settlement between regulated financial institutions has never been achieved on such a large scale on any other blockchain. Who is using/building Canton? The Canton network's daily repo transaction volume reaches $350 billion, up from $280 billion in August 2025. Broadridge was the first major institution to launch on the network, with its entire distributed ledger repurchase platform running on the Canton network. Repurchase agreements refer to short-term lending between banks and financial institutions using government bonds as collateral; currently, no other blockchain can achieve such a high processing capacity. DTCC is collaborating with Digital Asset to tokenize and on-chain US Treasury bonds. This project has received a no-objection letter from the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and plans to launch a minimum viable product (MVP) in the first half of 2026, followed by wider rollout in the second half. DTCC also serves as co-chair of the Canton Foundation with Euroclear. This is not a test or a pilot program. Franklin Templeton has expanded its tokenized fund platform to Canton, joining Goldman Sachs, BNP Paribas, and Deutsche Börse. In January, Kinexys, JPMorgan Chase's blockchain arm, announced it would natively issue a dollar deposit token, JPM Coin, on its network. A few weeks later, Fireblocks also joined Canton as a supervalidator, providing institutional clients with regulated custody services and direct access to the ecosystem. Canton holds over $6 trillion in tokenized RWA, processes over 700,000 transactions daily, and operates on over 600 validator nodes. These nodes include HexTrust, Tharimmune (the first supervalidator company to be listed on Nasdaq, backed by $545 million in private funding), and other regulated entities. Why this matters: Companies built on the Canton platform already operate production systems under regulatory oversight, processing funds for real clients. The question is whether the broader cryptocurrency market will take notice. Currently, no block explorer allows anyone to view transactions in real time. Use cases driving the Canton network, such as buyback settlements, tokenized bonds, and deposit tokens, don't generate headlines in the cryptocurrency space. Canton wasn't built for retail investors; it's built for companies that handle the flow of funds.</p></div></div></div>
