China Mobile spends USD 22 million to purchase Huawei AI chips
Huawei announced that China Mobile (00941.HK) has invested USD 22 million to sign an AI chip procurement agreement with Huawei. Reports indicate that China Mobile will significantly introduce the "Ascend 910B training card" and "Atlas 800 training server" to build provincial intelligent computing centers and 5G-A core network AI inference nodes; Huawei promises to complete delivery this quarter and provide MindSpore framework migration support to ensure a seamless transition from existing PyTorch models.
The report cites the agreement mentioning that China Mobile will purchase approximately 1,800 Ascend 910B chips and 200 Atlas 800 servers, deploying intelligent computing nodes in Guangdong, Zhejiang, and Jiangsu provinces, focusing on applications in network traffic prediction, base station intelligent energy saving, and edge AI inference scenarios. According to actual measurement data, the Ascend 910B has an inference latency only 15% higher than the H200 in the 5G-A network traffic prediction scenario, with a single card cost only 38% of the latter.
According to Huawei's official information, the procurement project includes: intelligent computing open service system software, information security and operation maintenance software, and temperature-controlled data backup storage equipment
