Meta will invest over $10 billion in a data center in Indiana, USA

Meta Platforms announced that it will invest over $10 billion to build a data center campus in Lebanon, Indiana, which will become one of the company's largest investments in artificial intelligence infrastructure to date. Meta held a groundbreaking ceremony for the Lebanon project on Wednesday. The company expects the campus to provide 1 gigawatt of power capacity, potentially to support its artificial intelligence projects as well as its core social media business. According to Rachel Peterson, Vice President of Meta Data Centers, the data center will cover an area of 4 million square feet and is expected to be operational by the end of 2027 or early 2028. Peterson stated in an interview that the investment scale of the Lebanon campus makes it one of Meta's largest data center projects to date, alongside the "Hyperion" campus in Louisiana and the "Prometheus" project in Ohio. Meta's $10 billion investment in the Lebanon project will be made over several years. Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg has prioritized artificial intelligence as the company's top focus and is heavily investing in the infrastructure he believes is necessary to win the AI competition. Last month, Meta indicated that it expects capital expenditures to reach up to $135 billion this year, including AI infrastructure projects—this amount sets a historical high, far exceeding expenditures in 2025. The company currently operates or is constructing over 30 data centers. The new campus in Indiana will be Meta's second data center project in the state. At peak construction, the company expects to support over 4,000 construction workers; once operational, it is expected to create about 300 long-term jobs.
