The population of Hong Kong reached 7.51 million at the end of last year, an increase of about 10,000 people year-on-year

According to figures released today by the Census and Statistics Department, the provisional population of Hong Kong at the end of 2025 is estimated to be 7,510,800. This represents an increase of 10,200 people, or 0.1%, compared to the population of 7,500,600 at the end of 2024.

During the period from the end of 2024 to the end of 2025, there was a net inflow of 29,100 Hong Kong residents (i.e., more people moved in than moved out). During the same period, the population recorded a natural decrease of 18,900 people (i.e., more deaths than births), with 31,100 births and 50,000 deaths.

Of the total population at the end of 2025, 7,242,400 are permanent residents, while 268,400 are mobile residents. The mid-year population revision figure for 2025 is 7,498,900, with the number of permanent residents revised to 7,232,900 and the number of mobile residents revised to 266,000. The population change rate from mid-2024 to mid-2025 has also been revised to -0.3%.
