U.S. inflation last month was lower than expected, while core inflation met expectations. The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 0.1% last Friday (13th). The Hong Kong stock market today (16th) saw the Hang Seng Index open down 65 points or 0.2%, at 26,501 points; the Hang Seng China Enterprises Index opened down 7 points or 0.1%, at 9,025 points; and the Hang Seng Tech Index opened down 10 points or 0.2%, at 5,350 points.

The quarterly review of the Hang Seng Index saw CATL (03750.HK), CMOC (03993.HK), and Lao Pu Gold (06181.HK) included, while Zhongsheng (00881.HK) was excluded. CATL and CMOC opened up 1.3% and 1.4%, respectively, while Lao Pu Gold opened up 0.2%. Beike-W (02423.HK) and Horizon-W (09660.HK), which were included in the Hang Seng China Enterprises Index, opened up 0.1% and 0.3%, respectively. China Resources Beer (00291.HK) and Mengniu (02319.HK), which were excluded from the Hang Seng China Enterprises Index but retained their Hang Seng Index component status, opened flat at HKD 26.72 and down 0.4%, respectively.

Sands China (01928.HK) reported a 0.7% decrease in adjusted property EBITDA last year, with its stock opening down 0.2% at HKD 18.46. Competitor Galaxy Entertainment (00027.HK) opened down 1%. Anta (02020.HK) received written approval from shareholders for the acquisition of approximately 29% of PUMA, with its stock opening up 0.3% at HKD 84.5. Alibaba-W (09988.HK) and Baidu-SW (09888.HK), which were included in the "Chinese Military Enterprises List" by the U.S. Department of Defense, opened down 1.8% and 1.5%, respectively. BYD (01211.HK) and Nio-SW (09866.HK) opened down 0.8% and 1.1%, respectively.

In other tech stocks, Meituan-W (03690.HK) issued a profit warning, expecting to report a loss of at least RMB 23.3 billion last year, and indicated that the loss trend would continue this quarter, with its stock opening down 0.6%. Tencent (00700.HK) opened down 0.4% at HKD 530, Kuaishou-W (01024.HK) opened flat at HKD 68.45, JD-SW (09618.HK) opened down 0.8%, and NetEase-S (09999.HK) opened up 1.8%. In the chip sector, SMIC (00981.HK) and Hua Hong (01347.HK) opened up 0.1% and 0.2%, respectively. In the automotive sector, Geely (00175.HK) opened down 1.4%, Xiaomi-W (01810.HK) opened flat at HKD 36.84, and Leapmotor (09863.HK) opened up 1.8%.

In the financial sector, HSBC (00005.HK) opened down 1.7% at HKD 133.4, Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing (00388.HK) opened down 0.5%, and AIA (01299.HK) opened up 0.9%
