<ul><li>A brand-new Polestar 2 electric sedan is coming.</li><li>The second generation of the EV that made Polestar what it is today will be revealed in early 2027.</li><li>Polestar said it’s working at record speed to get the new sedan to the market.</li></ul><div><div id="ads_6122441_EV_ev_us_Rectangle_rectangle_first_1771415028"></div></div><p>Polestar, the Chinese-owned Swedish automaker, will launch a new generation of the Polestar 2 electric sedan next year, the company confirmed today. That’s the car that put the up-and-coming car manufacturer on the map, and it knows it, so it’s giving it a new lease on life as part of an ambitious plan to launch four new models in just three years.</p><p>“Polestar 2 is the foundation of our brand, with over 190,000 cars sold and an enthusiastic community of customers,” said Michael Lohscheller, Polestar CEO. “Bringing the next generation of this iconic car at record speed, by the start of next year, is very exciting. Because of its manufacturing roots, the EV was discontinued in the United States last year due to the Trump Administration’s hiked import tariffs, but the battery-powered sedan is still going strong in Europe and other parts of the world.</p><p>Last year, the European-spec Polestar 2 got another mild facelift to keep it up to date until early next year, when its successor will go into production. A big chunk of the company’s success was due to the new Polestar 3 and Polestar 4 crossovers, but the Swedish automaker still has a sweet spot for the Polestar 2, the car that started it all.</p><p>The launch of the second-gen Polestar 2 is part of the company’s updated strategy to launch no fewer than four new models by 2028. Polestar’s CEO confirmed its entry-level EV would get a sequel last year, but now we know when it will become a reality.</p><div><div id="ads_6122441_EV_ev_us_Native_native_3_1771415028"></div></div><div><div id="ads_6122441_EV_ev_us_Native_native_2_1771415028"></div></div><p>After boosting sales by 34% last year, the automaker expects a low double-digit increase in volume in 2026. The company'sportfolio will grow with the Polestar 5 four-door grand tourer and a new version of the Polestar 4 this year, followed by the new Polestar 2 sedan next year and the Polestar 7 compact SUV in 2028.</p><p>These will join the Polestar 3 SUVand Polestar 4 crossover, making for a five-car lineup by the end of the decade. There’s no Polestar 6 on the radar, at least not yet. To add to the confusion, each model’s number doesn’t represent its size, so the Polestar 7 will not be the largest in the portfolio–in fact, it will be one of the smallest in the lineup, likely based on the same compact platform as the upcoming Polestar 2. Then, there’s the Polestar 4 coupe-crossover mashup and its second body version, followed by the Polestar 5 GThalo and the Polestar 3 SUV.</p><div><div id="ads_6122441_EV_ev_us_Rectangle_rectangle_2_1771415028"></div></div><p>All this being said, Polestar is tight-lipped when it comes to the U.S. availability of its upcoming EVs.
