
"Hong Kong Stocks" Hang Seng Index closed up 249 points, property stocks led the rise, New World Development surged over 7%
After falling 384 points or 1.4% yesterday (26th), the Hong Kong stock market rebounded today (27th). The Hang Seng Index opened 66 points higher and the gains expanded, rising by 320 points in the afternoon to reach 26,701 points, closing up 249 points or 0.9% at 26,630 points. The National Index rose 45 points or 0.5%, closing at 8,859 points, while the Hang Seng Tech Index rose 28 points or 0.6%, reporting 5,137 points. The changes in MSCI index constituents took effect after the market closed, with a total turnover of HKD 288.42 billion for the day.
Real estate stocks saw New World Development (00016.HK) report a nearly 17% increase in half-year underlying profit, with an interim dividend per share rising to HKD 0.98. The stock price rose 7.1% for the day, with brokers noting that the increased dividend was surprising and indicated higher future earnings transparency. New World (00017.HK), Hang Lung Properties (00101.HK), Cheung Kong Holdings (01113.HK), Henderson Land (00012.HK), and Swire Properties (01972.HK) rose between 2.5% and 3.8%.
The MSCI China Index changed its constituents after the market closed, with the newly included Hesai (02525.HK) and SenseTime (00020.HK) rising 4.4% and 4.9%, respectively. Pony.ai (02026.HK) and Yangtze Optical Fibre and Cable (06869.HK) each rose over 10%, while the removed Fosun International (00656.HK) also rose 7.5%, and Vanke (02202.HK) fell 0.8%.
In the technology sector, Baidu (09888.HK) reported a 42% year-on-year decline in non-GAAP net profit for the fourth quarter last year, slightly exceeding market expectations, and the stock rebounded 0.2%. It was reported that Meituan (03690.HK) postponed its Keeta launch plan in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, with Meituan rising 0.9%. Tencent (00700.HK) and Bilibili (09626.HK) rose 1.2% and 1.4%, respectively, while NetEase (09999.HK) rose 2.4%. Alibaba (09988.HK) and Kuaishou (01024.HK) fell 0.1% and 1.2%, respectively, and JD.com (09618.HK) rose 0.4%. In the chip sector, SMIC (00981.HK) rose 0.6%, Hua Hong (01347.HK) fell 1.1%, and Biren Technology (06082.HK) fell 3%, while Tensyn (09903.HK) rose 8.4%.
In the AI sector, Zhizhu (02513.HK) and Yunzhisheng (09678.HK) rose 3.3%, while Haizhi Technology (02706.HK) and MiniMax (00100.HK) fell 12% and 3.2%, respectively. Cloud service provider Kingsoft Cloud (03896.HK) rose 7.7%. Robotics stock Yujian (02432.HK) fell 3.1%. Nidec (00179.HK) surged 17.4%, with a turnover exceeding HKD 1 billion.
In the automotive sector, BYD (01211.HK) closed flat at HKD 94.95. Xiaomi (01810.HK) fell 0.8%. It was reported that Stellantis (STLA.US) is researching the introduction of Leapmotor (09863.HK) technology to reduce costs for European budget brands, with Leapmotor falling 0.9%. Nio (09866.HK) fell 2.5%. Stocks related to autonomous driving, such as WeRide (00800.HK), fell 4.5%. Pharmaceutical stock BeiGene (06160.HK) turned a profit for the year with a net profit of USD 287 million, and its stock price fell 1.1% WuXi AppTec (02359.HK) and CSPC Pharmaceutical Group (01093.HK) rose 3.2% and 3.8%, respectively, WuXi Biologics (02268.HK) and WuXi AppTec (02269.HK) rose 8.2% and 5.1%, and CanSino Biologics (09926.HK) rose 4.9%.
In the financial sector, HSBC (00005.HK) rose 1.6%, AIA (01299.HK), Bank of China Hong Kong (02388.HK), and Standard Chartered (02888.HK) each rose over 2%, Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing (00388.HK) rose 0.9%, while Postal Savings Bank of China (01658.HK) fell 2.6%.
In other stocks, CK Hutchison Holdings (00001.HK) retreated 0.6%. Airline stocks China Southern Airlines (01055.HK), China Eastern Airlines (00670.HK), and Air China (00753.HK) fell 4.1% to 5%. Gold retail stock Lao Pu Gold (06181.HK) rose 3.6%. Coal stocks Shenhua (01088.HK) and Yanzhou Coal (01171.HK) rose 4% and 4.1%, respectively, China Coal Energy (01898.HK) rose 6.8%, steel stock Maanshan Iron & Steel (00323.HK) rose 6.6%, and aluminum stock China Aluminum (02600.HK) rose 3.4%. Mixue (02097.HK), Uni-President China (00220.HK), and China Resources Beverage (02460.HK) fell 3.6% to 4.8%, while China State Construction International (03311.HK) fell 4.6%
