Hybrid cars top choice for consumers in Europe in 2025: data
Hybrid-electric vehicles have become the preferred choice for consumers in Europe, surpassing petrol cars in 2025. According to the European Automobile Manufacturers' Association, 10.8 million new vehicles were registered, marking a 1.8% increase from the previous year. Hybrid sales rose by 13.5%, capturing 34.5% of the market, while battery-electric vehicles saw a 30% increase, accounting for 17.4%. Despite overall sales growth, petrol and diesel vehicles' market share fell to 35.5%. Volkswagen Group led sales growth, while Tesla's sales dropped by nearly 38% due to reputational issues.
