Number of unemployed in Germany reaches 12-year high
The number of unemployed in Germany has surpassed 3 million, reaching a 12-year high, with an increase of 177,000 people out of work, resulting in an unemployment rate of 6.6%. Despite this rise, the seasonally adjusted unemployment figure remained unchanged at 2.976 million, with a rate of 6.3%. Labour office director Andrea Nahles noted a lack of momentum in the labour market, while Chancellor Friedrich Merz aims to improve the economy through increased infrastructure and defense spending, though results are slower than anticipated.
