Heating bills expected to spike for American households nationwide this winter
Heating bills for American households are projected to rise by 9.2% this winter, amounting to an additional $84, according to the National Energy Assistance Directors Association (NEADA). The average household is expected to spend $995 on heating, driven by a 12.2% increase in electricity costs and an 8.4% rise in natural gas prices. Factors contributing to these increases include higher financing costs for power plants, rising natural gas prices, and growing electricity demand. Many households are struggling with utility bills, with about one-in-six behind on payments, totaling $23 billion owed to utilities.
